Tracie Hotchner is the nationally acclaimed author of THE DOG BIBLE: Everything Your Dog Wants You to Know and THE CAT BIBLE: Everything Your Cat Expects You to Know.
Tracie is a passionate advocate for the proper care and feeding of dogs and cats, and all the many other ways to create a physical well-being and emotional harmony for the pets who share our lives. The world of companion animals has such a barrage of commercial selling and so many little-understood issues, that people are deafened by all the noise out there yet often lacking in the ability to sift through it all and find what will work for them. On the show Tracie explores everything from the joys of a new puppy or kitten and all the possible “mine fields” to avoid – right to dealing with the death of a pet and even the “hereafter.” [A regular segment on the show will be the Official Animal Communicator, Ann Marie Sawicki, who has repeatedly made such astonishing connections for people with their pets (those still here and those who have crossed over the Rainbow Bridge) that she has made a believer of even a skeptic like Tracie!]
Whether it is pet nutrition you are interested in (what to feed your dog or cat is what Tracie has dedicated the last five years of her life to researching, and has gone across the country lecturing about) or training issues with your dog, picking and raising a puppy, out-of-litter-box events with your cat or inappropriate scratching – introducing a new kitten into your household or introducing a new baby to your dog, all of it is covered in the show. And every week is full of surprises for Tracie, too, because she takes questions on everything from animal medical issues to nutrition and behavior and gives callers the kind of firm, solid, clear advice that is all too lacking in the pet world today.
DOG TALK® & CAT CHAT® is Tracie’s newest radio show and incorporates all of her commitment to the welfare of our companion animals – along with two dynamic New York City partners to incorporate some of the most impressive and dedicated pet advocates in the city onto her team. The Animal Medical Center is a non-profit teaching hospital right in Manhattan with 90 veterinarians on staff and another 36 board-certified specialized veterinarians so that the hospital is also able to handle every possible malady that can befall a pet. AMC is the Official veterinary Partner of the show and their specialists will appear on air discussing their specialty and educating pet owners. The Official Shelter of the show is Bideawee, a long established and respected shelter right in Manhattan with low cost spay and neuter and veterinary care along with the adoption center. There are two other Bideawee locations, one in Westhampton which is also a shelter with further services and another Bideawee in Wantagh which is where their renowned Pet Memorial Park is located.
Tracie’s first radio show, DOG TALK® on NPR station 88.3 from Southampton, New York has been broadcasting for nearly 5 years.
Tracie’s second show, CAT CHAT® just had its 3rd anniversary on the Martha Stewart Channel of SiriusXM satellite radio and is the only show in the country where Cats Come First.
During her hundreds of broadcasts with guests from every sector of the companion animal world, Tracie has been an investigative journalist exploring all the practical aspects of people sharing their lives with a cat or dog. She has also encouraged listeners to consider the philosophical and emotional aspects of the human-animal bond as it impacts their own relationships, as well as the welfare of other animals that share our planet.
Her shows have a devoted following because of her passionate yet objective determination to get to the bottom of many well-hidden or controversial topics about dogs and cats: the truth about commercial pet food, the controversy over the need for frequent pet vaccinations, whether declawing cats and cropping the tails and ears of dogs is cruel, the laws governing chaining dogs outside year round, the dangers of allowing cats outdoors, stories of extraordinary protectors of companion animals, both in humane organizations and on a personal level, how to avoid and manage cancer in dogs and cats, what kind of knee surgeries are best for dogs – just about any topic you can think of.
In addition, Tracie has had many of the most notable authors of fiction and non-fiction books about dogs and cats on the shows.
